Former Narcs keyboardist/songwriter Liam Ryan co- wrote one of NZ’s most enduring pop songs (You Took Me) Heart and Soul in the 80s, and over the years has featured as a top shelf session man, toured with Robben Ford, Charlie Musselwhite and Long John Baldry.

Three years in the making, ‘Mississippi 2 Mauao’ is his first solo project – a beautifully produced CD of groove fusion instrumentals, elegantly weaving blues, jazz and hip hop into a world class album of 10 tracks.

Ryan’s incredible keyboard and production mastery combines great sampling with live performances from the edge – himself on the B3, Midge Marsden, Dave Maybee, Trevor Braunias, Mike Abbott, horn players Grant Mason and Cam Allen with a bit of grit from DJ Hone Ngata and the light touch of vocalist Carol Storey.

‘Mississippi 2 Mauao’ (Mt Maunganui) is a roots journey, a soul brew, a spirit lifter and from start to finish is satisfying. Never obtrusive, this is a fine intelligent work of style and substance. Very addictive listening.
